A couple of first-rate breba figs yesterday from opposite ends of the color spectrum: White Marseilles and Negronne. These readily available varieties are premier cultivars in both breba crop and main crop. (Negronne, as its synonym Violet de Bordeaux, is stocked by Edible Landscaping as is [White] Marseilles.) Though this pair of figs ripened relatively late in the breba month of production, these two varieties both also produce some of the earliest breba figs, and highest quality. (The Marseilles fig here is unusually small since it ripened on last year’s detached air layer, still in its 2.5 x 10 inch cone.)
