I didn’t think this pawpaw would ripen, its development was so much behind that of a normal size pawpaw. Instead, it ripened first and dropped to ground. Supreme Allegheny pawpaw flavor and aroma, with two seeds, larger than I thought they might be.
Black currants are an easy growing, easy rooting fruit with a kick. Something like a small musky grape. Because of the musky smell of the leaves there can be some deer resistance.
Some of the most reliable figs around: Brooklyn White and Violette de Bordeaux for breba and main crops. Mt Etna, Improved Celeste, and Celeste for main crop.
Big year for black raspberry (blackcaps) in northern PA. Always a big year for red currants, and goumi, just now swinging into full production, weeks after songbirds finished off the last ripe goumi in northern WV.
These photos were taken the last week of June in northern PA where juneberry and goumi (not pictured) ripen a month behind these fruits in northern WV. Also pictured here is ripe black currant and red raspberry, Incaberry developing, and in bloom is Allegheny chinquapin (dwarf chestnut) on precocious young trees about five feet tall.
